Whakatane at Huitieke

The Huitieke water level and rainfall
recorder is situated in the upper Whakatane catchment some 24 km upstream of
Ruatoki and in the heart of the northern Te Urewera National Park.
Summer water levels at this site can get
as low as 0.05 metres, but normal water levels are closer to 0.5 metres. The
maximum recorded water level at this site was just over 3 metres in July 1998.
The site records a mean annual
rainfall of 1510 mm and daily falls up to 160 mm.
