Are taxi drivers trained in assisting people with disabilities?
It is generally accepted that driver training is necessary to ensure that a good quality service is maintained and that taxi operators are conscious of and responsive to the difficulties that people with disabilities face.

A suitable DVD-based training programme is available at a national level. At least two of the larger taxi companies are using this resource to train drivers—including those drivers who are already involved in the regular transportation of passengers with disabilities—and others will be encouraged to follow suit.

What happens if the scheme rules are not complied with?
It is important that all parties involved in the Total Mobility scheme are seen to be following the policies and rules governing the scheme. Users, agencies or taxi companies that do not comply with the rules run the risk of being excluded from participating in the scheme.

Environment Bay of Plenty staff check all vouchers when they are presented for payment, carry out random audits on their use, and query anything unusual. We will not refund discounts on any vouchers that have not been correctly or adequately filled out, or on any vouchers for trips that do not comply with the rules of the scheme.
