Environment Bay of Plenty set up the environmental enhancement fund to support local projects that aim to enhance, preserve or protect the region’s natural or historic character.
Since then, the fund has allocated more than $5 million to community and local authority projects around the region. The projects vary widely in focus, from predator control and wetland restoration to heritage and business education. They involve schools, marae, district and city councils, community and environmental groups, and organisations like Fish and Game.
The environmental enhancement fund is a way Environment Bay of Plenty can fulfil its mission statement, “working with our communities for a better environment”.
Funding requests for less than $5000 can be made at any time throughout the year.
